Students from Springdale High School and DTSOI attended the Inaugural NWA Build My Future Event at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale.
The event sponsors included Nabholz, Crossland, Multi-Craft, ABC Arkansas, Office of Skills Development, Kimbel Mechanical, Flintco, Baldwin & Shell, AR Apprenticeship, Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. Clark Contractors, and more.
Students worked in teams to build a bench with Nabholtz (picture), bend metal, and work on plumbing and electrical projects on site. Industry representatives shared internship and work opportunities with students and teachers.
The trades provide many job opportunities for students at age 18 years of age in the industry represented at the BYF event today. Benefits include paid training, scholarships for advanced learning opportunities, medical benefits, and hourly wages ranging from $15 - 18.
Springdale students have the opportunity to gain certifications in OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NCCER Core, and NCCER Construction free of charge at any high school through the trades classes. If a student obtains these certifications while in high school then the industry will increase an employee's starting wage.
