Don Tyson School of Innovation senior Steicy Lopez has been working with Parson Hills Elementary EAST students to produce ear savers with a 3D printer. Lopez, who first took EAST in seventh grade, and the Parson Hills students presented 100 of the ear savers to Nicole Crawford of the Mercy Foundation to be utilized by health care workers. Lopez said, "In researching this project I read that health care workers and others who wear masks for long periods of time can develop painful problems around their ears and backs of their heads. These ear savers, approved by the National Institute of Health, alleviate that problem by taking pressure off around the mask. It's also good for those who wear glasses because the ear savers keep glasses from fogging while wearing masks." Lopez plans to reach out to other area hospitals and health care units to offer the ear savers. Parson Hills' EAST program, directed by Wade Ward, plans to produce 1,000 ear savers to be given away, some to district employees. Student-led projects that benefit the community are among the reasons Springdale Public Schools are #THEChoice.

Springdale Har-Ber High School became the first school in the United States to test Breezy One, a robot that can disinfect a building as large as Har-Ber in about two hours. District and school administrators watched a demonstration as they consider purchasing the product. Kimberly Corbitt, head of consumer engagement for Build With Robots (the manufacturer) says, "Breezy One uses a disinfectant that kills 99.999 percent of all bacteria, virus and fungi in a building 100 percent of the time. It can be operated by custodial staff members. It is safe in school because it disinfects while no one is in the building. We chose Springdale as our first test in a school because the district is innovative and forward thinking. We were excited to be at Har-Ber High School." Innovative thinking helps make Springdale Public Schools #THEChoice.
